A fresh look is coming to Suikakeibo on Android
A few years back my friend Lehel and I worked on some concepts to refresh the look of Suikakeibo, as the app has been around for some time and what once felt modern lost its shine a bit.
After releasing the first iOS version with an updated UI, it is finally time to announce that a fresh look is coming to Suikakeibo on Android, too. Going forward, the iOS and Android app will share most of the core design principles that make Suikakeibo a user-friendly app to scan and read your Japanese IC transit cards.
New UI can be tested from version 3.9.0
Starting in 3.9.0, you will find a menu item New Design (Beta)
in the main menu of the app.
Tapping it will launch the preview of the upcoming new experience.
While not all features are moved over yet, you will be able to:
- scan your ic cards like Suica, PASMO and the like (for a complete list of supported cards see the FAQ)
- see and manage all your cards (edit the name, delete)
- find your trip history and spendings in an updated look
- mark trips as company expense and add notes
- see statistics like your spendings per category and per note
New features
With some old features still to be moved to the new experience, I am glad to share a few new features made their way into the app:
- NEW use a variety of filters to drill down on your expenses
- NEW create manual backups from settings in case the regular Android backup and restore doesn’t work for some reason or you are switching from one platform to another!

Moving forward
I am working tirelessly to bring over all features you are used to, including reporting errors in trips, reminders and CSV export. While I cannot make any promises on a timeline, I will continuously update the beta experience until it is feature complete.
For everyone who dares to use the core features in a new look, I invite you to join the test and give feedback. I will randomly select helpful feedback and hand out an ads free or premium upgrade here and there.
